winLame is an audio converter/encoder, but a 'must have' for each and every user who uses audio files and needs/wants them in different file formats.
The most amazing feature of winLAME is its large number of supported input file formats, because apart from the usual MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA and ASF formats, it includes formats such as AIFF, AU, CAF, HTK, IFF, MAT (of MatLab ), PAF, RAW, W64, FLAC, SD2, SF, VOC ... reaching twenty-eight different formats, even AVI files!. Its supported output formats are MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA and ASF.
The interface of the program is very clear and its use even more. It will guide you step by step, asking you one by one the various aspects of the conversion process: you first select the files to be converted, then the output format (by selecting the codec) and the folder to which the converted file will be saved, and finally the desired audio settings.
In terms of quality, it includes useful preset configurations, but on the other hand, it also offers you the opportunity to manually adjust the audio bitrate or resulting quality from 64 kbps to 500 kbps. In addition, it is possible to establish a variable, medium or constant bitrate.
Other winLAME options are the batch process (which allows you to convert several songs at once), playlists creation in m3u format, use a song list (from Winamp for example), determine the "quantity" of processor designed to the conversion process, and even lets you specify what you want to do once the conversion process has finished: closing winLAME, user log off, hibernate, suspend or even shut down your PC.
This practical and useful program also includes the LAME MP3 and Ogg Vorbis codecs.
This version is considered as a "prerelease".
